A leading independent publisher based in London is looking to appoint a Managing Editor for their Children's list. You will work on a range of children's, non-fiction books, specialising in commercial black and white, and illustrated non-fiction titles aimed at ages 8-12.

You will be responsible for managing an enthusiastic and commercially-savvy team of 5 editors and should be prepared to contribute your own ideas and be involved in the development of the list. Your main duties will include: generating ideas, commissioning and managing a wide range of titles; appraising and supporting editorial staff; budgeting and scheduling; overseeing production of sales material and preparation for book fairs; training junior members of staff; and liaising both internally and externally.

You must have considerable relevant experience in children's publishing and excellent hands-on, editorial skills. The successful candidate will have experience in project managing book projects through the editorial process and will have commissioned writers, illustrators, and liaised with designers. You will ideally have experience of contributing to the strategic direction of titles and will be expected to work on multiple titles at once, all of which might have tight deadlines. Strong communication skills are key as you will be in frequent contact with authors, freelance editors, designers and experts. The successful candidate will be highly creative, have a strong eye for detail and be passionate about children's books and have an excellent knowledge of the Children’s market. You should have good IT skills and a familiarity with both Quark and InDesign would be useful.
