This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain further experience in academic in journal publishing! A prominent academic publisher has a vacancy in their Journals Division and is seeking a Managing Editor to coordinate and develop a group of journals within Engineering, Computing & Technology. This is a varied and demanding role likely to involve travel and significant contact with high profile academics and learned societies. The job would suit an experienced Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor (or similar), looking to take on additional responsibility in developing a list of their own. Those with prior experience managing titles will be at an advantage. The successful candidate’s responsibilities would include: * presenting reports for editorial board and society business meetings; * representing the company at scientific conferences; * developing content for electronic journal resource and maintaining journal web sites; * liaising extensively with colleagues in marketing and production departments, as well as academic editors externally; and * managing administrative processes for the list. Applicants will be educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a science subject, and have experience in the editorial department of an academic journal publisher. Applicants will need enthusiasm, commercial acumen and flexibility. Strong communication and presentation skills are essential. Familiarity with, and a passion for, the sciences, and an awareness of scientists’ needs in their publishing activities will be a distinct advantage.
