Are you looking for a new in-house design role in the Oxford area? Our client is looking to recruit a designer to work on a range of projects in their medical and health science publications division. The designer will work on new book cover design, interior text design and restyling projects for existing series; liaising with editors, authors and project managers to bring each brief to completion. Throughout the design process the designer will be tasked with balancing the needs of editorial and marketing while maintaining the design concept required for the audience. The role will also include elements of picture research and commissioning illustration work as required. The successful candidate will be familiar with current design trends and printing processes and will have experience of design work for print and online materials across a range of formats and product types. Knowledge of typography and current design software is essential (Adobe CS Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop). The Designer must be able to manage their own workload, monitoring progress of each project to meet deadlines, and work within set budgets. Negotiation skills are important when briefing freelancers and/or suppliers and good communication skills are required to ensure that the needs of both editorial and marketing departments are met. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work under pressure on a high volume of projects with continually changing priorities, and possess confidence in their own design ability while also being flexible in their approach.
