Recruitment Process

At Inspired Selection we are aware that each company and each job will be unique therefore we will always tailor our recruitment processes to suit our clients' needs. A typical recruitment process will include the following:

  • A telephone or face to face meeting to ensure we fully understand the role you are seeking to fill
  • An initial candidate search using our extensive internal database
  • Advertisement of the role on our own website, The Bookseller, and other relevant publishing job sites
  • Face-to-face interviews with all potential candidates
  • Submission of a candidate shortlist including CV details, salary details, notice period and a summary from the consultant
  • The coordination and management of interviews with your organisation
  • The management and negotiation of offers
  • The provision of referee contact details

All of our solutions can be conducted either as a contingency-based recruitment process or as a retained search. We also offer additional services such as salary benchmarking, market mapping and interview training.

If a traditional recruitment method doesn't work for you, or if you're looking for something a bit different, we are able to offer a creative, bespoke solution. For example, if you don't have the facility to hold several interviews at your own premises, you can arrange to interview your candidates at our offices.

Candidate Selection

Inspired Selection has an extensive database of the highest-calibre publishing professionals ranging from graduates to senior executives, each of whom has been met by us for a thorough registration interview to assess their key skills, experience and career objectives.

When you brief us on a particular role, we will not only provide you with our shortlist of appropriate candidates from our own network, but also ensure that your vacancy is given maximum exposure in the wider market. Each vacancy is advertised on both our own fully interactive website and the Bookseller website (unless requested otherwise). We can also advertise on other trade websites/publications as deemed appropriate.

Our website has its own Vacancy Update Service, which automatically sends out email updates to subscribed candidates with details of vacancies in their fields of interest. Thousands of candidates are currently registered with this service both in the UK and internationally. We advertise regularly in the trade press to promote our website and our site has links from other relevant websites to ensure optimum relevant exposure.

With regard to recruitment for entry-level opportunities, we have close links with many colleges and universities, particularly those with specific publishing courses as well as other publishing organisations. We regularly participate in 'CV clinic' sessions and presentations at these institutions.

We are sponsors of The London Book Fair and attend other relevant trade fairs and conferences. We also sponsor and attend events held by the Society of Young Publishers providing the opportunity to engage and network with junior candidates.

Candidates are emailed or phoned regularly to ensure that our database is kept as up to date as possible.

Candidates' details are never forwarded to our clients without their prior consent.
