Workflow Operations Manager

A leading scholarly publisher in Central London is searching for a Workflow Operations Manager to take ownership of the systems that power editorial, production, peer review and wider publishing operations. This hybrid role (2 days a week in the office) offers the chance to shape how a major publishing programme functions behind the scenes.
Role Details:
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Permanent, full time 35h per week
Location: London, hybrid (2 days per week in the office)

This is a pivotal position for someone who thrives on clarity, structure and continuous improvement. You'll be the driving force behind streamlining processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and championing best practice across teams.
What you'll be doing:
·Overseeing all internal publishing systems: who uses them, who owns them, and how they integrate
·Coordinating key platforms, from peer review systems to OA payment portals, ensuring they run seamlessly
·Line managing a Publishing Administrator and contributing to a culture of collaboration and excellence.
·Mapping and maintaining all publishing workflows in collaboration with process owners
·Applying methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma to identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements and monitor impact
·Interpreting KPI dashboards to highlight trends and opportunities for optimisation
·Managing procurement processes, contract timelines and compliance requirements
·Leading transitions to new systems or workflows, ensuring smooth adoption across teams
·Acting as the publishing lead for accessibility and AI, keeping processes aligned with evolving standards
What you'll bring:
·Exceptional organisational ability and strong analytical skills
·Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to explain processes and influence stakeholders across different teams
·A solid understanding of STM publishing and commercial considerations
·Experience with Lean Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methodologies
·A proactive, solutions-focused mindset and the confidence to make informed decisions
·The ability to manage complex projects, balance competing priorities and guide others through change
